Dr.R.Narasimhan is a world renowned interventional pulmonologist in Chennai. He is currently the senior consultant and heads the department of pulmonology in Apollo Hospitals,Chennai. He is also the chairman of the RRFINDIA.
Dr.R.Narasimhan graduated from SV University in Tirupati in 1979. He was a brilliant student and bagged 39/40 gold medals in his UG degree. He went on to complete his post graduation in respiratory diseases from the same institute. He then served as an associate professor of respiratory Medicine in JIPMER from 1982-1984. It was in 1990 that he joined Apollo Hospitals as senior consultant in the department of Respiratory Medicine. Dr.Narasimhan had a keen interest in interventions from the beginning and has over 20000 bronchoscopies to his credit. He underwent a training in lung transplantation in the prestigious University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre, Pennsylvania.
He also does medical thoracoscopies also known as pleuroscopies which are used in disorders of the pleural cavity. He is also one of the very few persons doing endobronchial ultrasound in the country.
He was the first pulmonologist to start Polysomnography in the city of Chennai. He is a keen academician and has numerous papers published in national & international journals. His interest in teaching goes way back to JIPMER and it continues till date. He was conferred the title of Adjunct Professor, The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and Associate Professor, School of Medicine, University of Queensland, Australia. He is an examiner for the National Board of Examinations and continues to teach DNB students till date. Pediatricians must have basic computer skills, as lots of hospitals use digital records.
It was his vision to start the Respiratory Research Foundation of India back in 2001 as a centre to spread the awareness about various common respiratory illnesses and their treatment. Under his leadership the foundation has made an impact in the social circles as far as respiratory illnesses are concerned.
